For some individuals panic attacks are the result of phobias. For others there is no apparent trigger. They just come out of nowhere with varying degrees of pain and/or embarrassment. Fortunately, there are many tools that panic attack sufferers can use to fight these debilitating episodes without powerful and possibly harmful medications. Natural remedies are often the most effective approach to get help for panic attacks.

For recurring panic attacks, doctors sometimes prescribe antidepressants or anti-anxiety medication. Many people find artificial pharmaceuticals disagreeable, so they pursue other possibilities. Frequently, they turn to herbal remedies, vitamins, and other health supplements. However, it is important to remember that before you take any supplements, you should speak with your doctor.

An important step in treating your panic attacks naturally is by getting enough exercise. A healthy body leads to a healthy mind and it’s important that the two are balanced and in optimum condition. The worst thing that a sufferer can do is to sit down and relax when a panic attack begins. When adrenaline is released and the fight or flight syndrome takes hold it’s vital to burn it off by taking a long walk or doing some other kind of mobile activity.

Aromatherapy can help to relieve panic attacks. The soothing properties of certain oils can calm and relax tense nerves. Lavender, lemon balm and passiflora are some of the recommended oils that can produce positive results.

Consider taking a yoga class. This ancient system of exercise from India focuses on enhancing breathing techniques and improving flexibility. With enough time and practice the level of stress will go down considerably, and panic attacks will occur less frequently.

There are also many herbal remedies that have shown to be effective at managing panic attacks. Here’s a look at a few of them.

Using St. John’s Wort for panic attacks has been proven to increase a person’s well being and greatly reduce the effects of panic attacks. It helps to stabilize the brain’s neurotransmitters and the “feel good” chemicals norepinephrine, serotonin and dopamine. The result is more stable moods which tend to discourage panic attacks.

Valerian root has been proven in many clinical trials to be an effective sedative. Its medicinal ingredients, valepotriate and sesquiterpene depress the central nervous system, and slow your heart and breathing. After taking valerian root for thirty days, patients report feeling less anxious and less nervous.

Something simple as not enough vitamin B could be messing you up. Without proper amounts of vitamin B-complex, your brain is prone to anxiety, nervousness and panic. Vitamin B stabilizes the concentrations of dopamine, serotonin, acetylcholine and GABA in your brain. Try taking pills with vitamin B1, B3, B5, B6, B9 and B12. They should help reduce panic attacks.

Whatever supplements you decide to take, discuss them with your doctor beforehand. If your doctor believes they will interact dangerously with your medications, his or her word is final.

High Field Stand-Up MRI vs. the Traditional “older technology” Open MRI

Washington Open MRI now has the world’s only high field full-body Stand-Up Open MRI scanner that can scan patients in the sitting or standing position.

Our new Stand-Up Open MRI technology allows you to watch TV during your Open MRI scan!
No more fear of claustrophobia or being squeezed into a tube.
Washington Open MRI’s Stand-Up Open-MRI is the world’s only Patient-Friendly? scanner.
Our Open MRI technology is toally open and accessible!

This technological breakthrough is second to none in the MRI imaging world, and fully reimbursed by all insurance carriers at no additional cost to the patient.

The revolutionary scanner features the only MRI-compatible, motorized, multi-positional, patient positioning system, which has been designed to be fully functional Inside the scanner’s magnetic field. It can position the patient for the conventional “lie-down” MRI scanning, or upright for weight-bearing studies. The full length of the spine can be imaged in the normal weight-bearing posture, even with the patient touching their toes for full flexion images of the lumbar spine. Flexible (standing, sitting, bending) patient positions that are impossible on conventional “lie-down” MRI scanners are routine on Washington Open MRI’s new Stand-Up Open MRI.

The patient positioning system is tilted back slightly in order to stabilize the patient and avoid body motion during stand-up scanning. Patients can be positioned facing the poles, which enables a large range of motion for scans of the shoulder. Scans can also be obtained with lateral flexion of the lumbar spine. This new Stand-Up Open MRI is based on FONAR’s proven high-field technology, and FONAR is the PATENT HOLDER for Magnetic resonance imaging scanning technology – all others license this proprietary technology fror their MRI equipment. So who do you think will always be at “the cutting edge”.The combination of the transaxial magnetized field and any of FONAR’s array of high signal-to-noise solenoidal surface coils is one of the key reasons why the new Weight-Bearing Stand-Up or Sit-Down Open MRI is second-to-none in image quality. Its full range of advanced software package features and state-of-the-art pulse sequences provide unparalleled diagnostic precision.

In Modern Medicine…

Often an upright position is the only position in which the patient’s symptoms occur and can be diagnosed. Certain cardiovascular and neurological disorders exhibit their symptoms primarily when the patient is upright. The same is true of the GI tract and the neck, spine and joints, including hips, knees and ankles. Coupled with MRI’s unparalleled ability to “see” soft tissues, Stand-Up Open MRI gives physicians an unprecedented view of pathology and its impact on function.

From the perspective of medicine, Stand-Up Open MRI provides a striking view of the body’s interior. For the first time, Washington Open MRI brings to the medical practice the newfound ability to see all the body’s organs and tissues in their normal position of function – upright.

This technological breakthrough is second to none in the MRI imaging world, and fully reimbursed by all insurance carriers at no additional cost to the patient.

A few things about contact lenses

The first contact lenses ever made were developed out of glass. After that, new types appeared, as the ones made of Plexiglas and the rigid gas permeable ones, but, nowadays, the soft contact lens is the most appreciated. Modern materials include silicon hydrogel or other plastic polymers like etalficon A, galyficon A, senofilcon A (used in the fabrication of Acuvue contact lenses). Rigid gas permeable contact lenses are recommended to the persons with dry eyes as these lenses contain no water that could evaporate during the wearing.

The wearing time

A daily contact lens is safer as the risk of infection is lower than at the long term contact lens. This type does not require cleaning, being single-use only. It is sterile. And it even keeps you away from spending money on cleaning or storage solutions. On the other hand, the extended wear type of contact lenses allows people to easily wear contacts for a longer period while allowing oxygenation (they usually have a high oxygen permeability rate). Some people prefer them as their convenience is obvious, but the risk of infection is higher than at the daily type of contact lenses due to the bacterial stagnation, dust accumulation and so on.

One of the most popular contact lenses brand in the world is Acuvue, produced by Johnson & Johnson’s subsidiary Vistakon Company. They provide both vision and esthetical contact lenses. They design disposable lenses, making types that are to be replaced every two weeks (Acuvue, Acuvue 2, Acuvue 2 Colors, Acuvue Advanced and Acuvue Oasys) or less (1-Day Acuvue). They’re also started making extended wear lenses.

Where to buy them from

Contact lens quality is very important. Low-quality contact lenses can damage the eye, causing irritations or hurting the eyelid or the cornea. Attention must be paid to the way the lenses are worn, kept and cleaned because, even if they are high-quality, they present different risks. So, the contact lens must be bought from specialised stores after consulting a doctor. Places where these items are available can be found anywhere as the contact lenses online are very popular. Another tendency is to acquire them from an on-line store. This method can even be less expensive and still offer the same quality. You just need the prescription. But be careful and only choose reputable stores. Your health is at stake.

How Will The Food You Eat Affect Your Health?

Food experts and parents up and down the country have been warning us since the beginning of time that “we are what we eat”. Does this mean that if someone only eats Chinese takeaways they will become fat and unhealthy? What they mean by this of course is that whatever we put into our mouths has a direct influence on our health, fitness, beauty and even mood. You only have to spend 10 mins in front of the TV to be bombarded with messages about what is good for you, what is bad for you, and what you simply cannot live without. However, if you are not an expert its pretty hard to filer out the really important info, so here is is for you, the foods with the biggest influence on our insides and out.

Salt. Up until relatively recently, salt was not considered to be a bad thing for us and was rife in lots of peoples diets. The Food Standards Agency in the UK state that people should have no more than 6g of salt and day and most people exceed this. Those people who are very sporty or drink lots of water may need higher levels of salt in their diets as they lose it through sweating. The majority of people need much less than they are currently eating however as it is attributed to heart failure, stoke and elevated blood pressure.  Rather than put it in your body, salt is good at conditioning skin and is in fact an ingredient in lots of skin care products

Fats. There are types of fat that are vital to the functioning of our body, including maintain organs, skin and vision. If the fats that we needed were the saturated type (trans fats) then there would not be so much of a problem as lots of people eat vast amounts of these, but unfortunately its not, it’s is the unsaturated fats that we need. In basic terms, you will not only become overweight if your saturated fat intake is too high, but you’ll be putting yourself at risk of getting blood pressure and heart problems, joint problems and many more. It won’t matter how many times you get your body wrap, your appearance and health will not be great if you don’t watch your fats

Water. Whilst you might not strictly eat water, it is vitally important to your health. Although many experts suggest you drink 2lts a day, it really depends on myriad factors such as age, location, activeness etc.  Water is used in every element of the bodies functioning but also has a large impact in appearance, so if you drink enough of the stuff you won’t need any skin firming treatments as frequently

What are our preferences for takeaways in the UK?

Is is it for real? Has ‘fish and chips’, the traditional king of the UK takeaway industry, been ousted by other choices? Once the number one choice in the UK, it seems clear that it is no longer the top takeaway dog. Below is a list of interesting facts and figures to support this:

The traditional English takeaway is now more popular in Dublin than anywhere in the UK. It may have something to do with the larger population of Chinese people in England than is known to exist in Ireland. Most people know that chip shops have become the attraction for the Chinese, who sprinkle a little of their own culture into the business.

Indian food rules, except in London and the North West, where Chinese food is king. This again is fairly easy to understand, considering the demographics of these particular cultures. The biggest of the Indian communities are found in the North East, on the other side of the Pennines.

· 3 out of 5 takeaways meals bought in this country are either Chinese or Indian food.

More than 1,200 people were quizzed for the website Just-Eat.co.uk. They found the average annual takeaway bill is £550, which equates to about £45 per person per month. This is the figure that I personally find astounding, especially during times of economic depression. I would have thought that people would be looking to save that money and organise there own catering from home. I mean, how difficult is it to cook something in your own kitchen? Apparently, the kitchen is not the place to be for most people at this time of the year, which has something to do with the depressing lack of light!

Sales more than double after the clocks go back in October. Possibly there are a number of reasons why it is like this, with the cold weather being the obvious culprit. When the weather becomes much chillier, people are less likely to go out to eat, or shop in the super market for their meals.
