Getting addiction help will involve contacting either professional services of some sort or a 12 step treatment program. This is what is largely out there and easy to find in terms of recovery and treatment. The professional services will include things such as in-patient and residential treatment centers that might include a full medical detox as well. But in addition to treatment, there is also help to be had in the form of counseling and group therapy.

Many people might use these types of services after they leave treatment as a form of aftercare.

It can be quite a struggle to get someone else to take action and do something about their problem and ultimately you will find that we cannot really change anyone, only ourselves. Nevertheless, our own actions can have an influence on the future choices and behavior of the struggling addict in our life.

For example, we have to stop enabling addicts if we happen to play a part in their drinking or using. This includes helping them out when they get into trouble or calling in sick for them if they miss work due to their drug use. We can have an impact on their life by deciding not to support their addiction.

Unfortunately this is what has to happen in order for some drug addicts to become open to the idea of change. If an addict does not experience misery in their life then they will not be likely to make a decision to do anything different. So we learn in trying to help others that we should not deny the addict of their pain. It is not the case that we have to try extra hard to deceive them or manipulate them in any way – we only have to let them make their own mistakes and deal with the mess that they make for themselves.

Giving genuine help to an addict is sometimes difficult because many times when we think we are helping them we are actually enabling them. The bottom line is that you should never help an addict who is trying to set their own terms – when they are ready for real change they will be willing to accept the help on your terms instead. We can still make a difference in the life of an addict but usually it is not a direct difference. Instead we have to do our part in the relationship as far as no longer rescuing them in any way.

An Overview On The Types of Diabetic Neuropathy

Diabetic neuropathy is a cluster of nerve damage caused by diabetes mellitus. It is a common complication that injures the nerves responsible for your feeling sensation. There are many ways how diabetes damages these nerves, but it all comes down to one reason, a blood glucose level that has been too high for over a long period of time.

Manifestations of the Disease

Diabetic Neuropathy can lead to numbness, weakness and pain in the following area:
Hands
Arms
Feet
Legs
Diabetic Neuropathy: An Overview
It can also occur in any organ system of the body including the cardiovascular system, specifically the heart, the gastrointestinal system and reproductive system. It also appears to be widespread in people who have a hard time controlling their blood sugar levels, people with high blood pressure and high levels of cholesterol, overweight and people over the age of 40.

The Common Types

The types of diabetic neuropathy are as follows:

Peripheral
Autonomic
Proximal
Focal

The most widespread type of diabetic neuropathy is peripheral neuropathy. It is also called as distal symmetric neuropathy; it involves the arms and legs and causes pain or loss of feeling in the toes, feet, legs, hands and arms.

Autonomic Neuropathy is a diabetic neuropathy that is responsible for the changes in digestion, sexual response, bowel and bladder function and perspiration. It also affects the nerves in the heart and control in blood pressure. This can also cause hypoglycemia unawareness wherein the person involved will not experience any warning signs of low blood sugar. With this predicament, a diabetic patient should always see to it that his or her diet is a balanced diet. Not too much or too little sugar is advisable .You can choose dish up a good meal from the thousands of diabetic recipes in the internet.

Proximal Neuropathy can also cause pain in the thighs, hips and buttocks. Usually the pain occurs on one side only. It can also lead to leg weakness and the common treatment for this physical therapy and some medications. The recovery period varies from person to person and the type and degree of the nerve damage.

Focal neuropathy can result in sudden weakness of a specific nerve or a bundle of nerves that causes muscles pain or weakness. Oftentimes it occurs in the head, leg and torso .It can cause eye pain, double vision, Bell’s palsy or paralysis of one side of the face. This type of diabetic neuropathy is oftentimes unpredictable but it is self-limiting and will not cause long-term damage.

What’s for Lunch? Oh, More Chemicals.

Have you considered the safety of what you putting into your body recently?

Take soft drinks for example. Coke is so acidic that it makes a great automobile engine cleaner, and it’s even rumored that the manufacturer uses it to clean the engines of their own trucks. On top of that, the acidic liquid then sits, sometimes for years, in an aluminum can. Have you heard that aluminum in the body is associated with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia? That’s a combination I’d start asking myself, “Is that safe?” I’d encourage you to do so as well.

How do you feel about putting anti-freeze in the body?

Do you know that the main ingredient in anti-freeze is common in many “snack foods” found in convenience stores? How’s that for convenience? Anti-freeze right in a food – soon they’ll be marketing the benefits for those who live in cold weather. Anti-freeze is also frequently used in personal care products – which people put onto their skin. I’m not sure about you but I’m thinking this is another perfectly good time for, “Is this safe?”

Now, I’m going to encourage you to try to make sense of the ingredients on most packaged foods. Do you know what even half of them are? Another good time for, “Is this safe?” And perhaps, “Why are all of these chemicals in my food?”

What about eating pesticides each day? Pesticides – you know – the stuff they use to kill bugs.

You know that pesticides are found in small amounts in every non-organic food, right? While it may not hurt you to consume small amounts once or twice in your life, how about small amounts several times each day? Another perfectly good time for, “Huh? Is this really safe?”

So, we have a rather strange predicament here. The manufacturers of these foods assert that all of these chemicals are absolutely safe in the body. So, people regularly eat them. And most of the population has at least one or two health problems.

On top of it all, most medical professionals can’t tell you the reason why most people have health problems. But in fairness, most medical professionals don’t recognize stored toxicity as a problem at all, and they, themselves, are in the business of selling even more chemicals for the body.

What a strange world we live in. Could all of this sickness be related all of the unnatural junk we’re putting right in our bodies – several times each day? To understand a problem, we really have to understand the cause. And with the common, yet highly chemical, diets and lifestyles exclusive to the 21st century, understanding the cause isn’t really too difficult.

Fortunately for those who choose not to have health problems, body detoxification, with deep colon and liver cleansing, is a very effective means to remove a great deal of those stored chemicals and toxins from your body. You’d be amazed at what some deep cleansing can do to repair the damage caused by normal living these days.

Introduction to rigid contact lenses development

Originally, when the hard (pmma) contact lens was developed, the correction of astigmatism was not much of an issue due to the fact that this lens material was rigid and therefore did not follow the contour of the irregularities of the cornea and so the tear film between the lens and the cornea of the eye would function as an extra lens which would compensate the irregularities and also most of the astigmatism caused by the cornea.

With the onset of soft contact lenses, the problem of correcting astigmatism suddenly re-emerged because this type of lens material (as the name already suggests) does follow the contour of the cornea and therefore does not compensate for astigmatism. The end result was that the popularity of soft contact lens was slowed down since most hard contact lenses wearers who use refitted with soft contact lens suddenly realize that their vision was not quite as clear with the newly fitted soft lens. So the main reason for the refit from hard to soft lenses was the advantage of comfort or the fact that the soft lens did not spontaneous fell out during contact sports. Other reason for contact lens wearers to stay with the rigid hard lens was the low maintenance cost. The pmma lens was made out of Perspex and therefore needed very little care. Most wearers would just store the lens dry during the night and use a few drops of saline to help to insert the lens in the morning. Some people even used saliva to clean or wet the lens before putting it in their eyes.

The next development was the gas permeable (hard) rigid lens which was to replace the pmma hard lens. This lens was as uncomfortable as the pmma lens and also needed a long adaptation period for the wearer to get used to. The advantage of this type of lens was that the oxygen transmission to the cornea improved and therefore could be worn for longer periods without complications such as oxygen deprivation which could lead to cornea oedema and other symptoms. The correction of astigmatism was again not much of an issue.

The big drawback of this kind of lenses was the depositing of protein molecules on the lenses surface especially when the lenses user did not adhere to a strict cleaning regime. The lens wearers had to spend extra money for the lens maintenance and the average lens replacement time went down from 10 plus years for the pmma lens to 4 years for the gas permeable lens. Most optometrists were able to convince their patients of the benefits of this new development although a considerable number of successful pmma lens wearers were not very happy with the increased spending and protein depositing of these new lenses.
